Behavioral Health Services
Wellness support when and where you need it
HCA Healthcare believes that mental health is just as important as physical health.
With treatment options for children, adolescents and adults, we have grown to become the third largest provider of mental health services in the nation. Our more than 50 inpatient programs and more than 200 outpatient programs across 16 states, make up one of the most connected networks of mental health and wellness centers in the nation.
About Behavioral Health Services
Behavioral Health Services is made up of 4,000 colleagues, including psychiatrists, nurses, therapists and technicians, who show up every day with the goal of improving care experiences and ultimately the lives of our patients. Our programs provide group therapy, individualized treatment and medical services to deliver a continuum of care. We aim to provide pioneering treatments with compassion and understanding.

The compelling need to care
- 1 in 5 U.S. adults experience mental illness in a given year.
- Half of all chronic mental illnesses begin by age 14; three-quarters begin by age 24.
- Over 50% of U.S. adults with a mental illness did not receive mental health treatment services in 2021.
- 90% of those who die by suicide may have experienced symptoms of mental illness; suicide is the second leading cause of death for individuals ages 10-14 and the third for those ages 15-24 in the U.S., but it is preventable.
- Treatments for serious mental illnesses are highly effective; between 70-90% of individuals who receive treatment experience a significant reduction of symptoms and improved quality of life.

Our partnerships
Girl Scouts of the USA
The HCA Healthcare Foundation and Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) launched a new series of Mental Wellness Patch Programs to address mental wellness among girls in 4th through 12th grade. This is a result of the HCA Healthcare Foundation’s $1.38 million grant to GSUSA, through the Healthier Tomorrow Fund.
The GSUSA Mental Wellness Patch Programs, developed in partnership with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and the GSUSA Program Advisory Committee, including HCA Healthcare behavioral health experts, are currently available to all councils nationwide. The programs, Knowing My Emotions, Finding My Voice and Showing Up for Me and You, encourage girls to:
- Learn about mental wellness for themselves and others;
- Recognize and understand their feelings;
- Effectively cope with mental health challenges; and
- Feel comfortable seeking help.

Psych Hub
Mental health impacts everyone. Every day, people are online actively asking questions and seeking answers related to mental health. Psych Hub and HCA Healthcare, in collaboration with Columbia University’s Department of Psychiatry, partnered in 2022 to create a 10-episode podcast series called “You Ask, We Answer” to bring people credible online mental health education.
EVERFI from Blackbaud
HCA Healthcare is proud to partner with EVERFI, an international technology company driving social change through education, to offer Understanding Mental Wellness, a digital resource that introduces middle and high school students to mental health education. In 2021, HCA Healthcare committed $3 million over three years to EVERFI to support and expand this course.
