HCA Healthcare founded a not-for-profit research institute Partnership for Advancing Clinical Excellence (PACE) which collaborates with academic institutions and funding agencies to advance medical knowledge and improve patient care through large-scale clinical research.

Creating a new standard of care
As a learning health system, we develop and share best practices across our enterprise that help improve patient care, using evidence-based guidance, tools, measurement, advanced analytics and data science to support safe, effective, compassionate care.
More than 40 HCA Healthcare hospitals and 75,000 patients took part in an 18-month study to determine the best care approach to preventing MRSA infections in ICUs. The study, called REDUCE MRSA trial's, found using antimicrobial soap and a nasal ointment on adult ICU patients reduces bloodstream infections, including MRSA, by 44 percent. The findings led to the creation of a new model of care, called universal decolonization, which all HCA Healthcare hospitals adopted in 2013.
Following its publication in the New England Journal of Medicine, the REDUCE MRSA trial's findings have gone on to set new standards in infection prevention across the country.

As physicians, we depend on and benefit from patient care data in order to inform and improve future treatment. At HCA Healthcare, we are fortunate to have access to data across 190 hospitals and more than 47 million annual patient encounters.
