Dedication to the care and improvement of human life
Over half a century later, HCA Healthcare's commitment to the mission and values our founders envisioned remains unwavering.
This commitment extends beyond our hospitals, touching lives in the communities we serve through education, outreach programs, and partnerships that foster health, hope, and well-being for everyone we serve.
Investing in our communities
HCA Healthcare is proud to be a member of communities in 20 states and we are committed to investing in them for years to come. Our economic impact in 2024 included:
- $4.9B in capital investment
- $7.2B in federal, state and local taxes incurred, including $2.6B of income, property, sales and use taxes
- $31.2B in payroll and benefits
- $48.5M+ in enterprise giving to community organizations
We made significant progress on our commitments to enhance care experiences, care for colleagues and give back to the communities we serve.
Training the next generation of the healthcare workforce
Galen College of Nursing joined HCA Healthcare in 2020, bringing together two leading nursing organizations and creating the country’s largest academic practice partnership. This partnership has increased access to education and provided nursing career development opportunities that we believe will positively impact patient care. Through this partnership, Galen now has 22 campuses with more than 17,600 students enrolled across the country.
HCA Healthcare is one of the nation’s leading sponsors of graduate medical education (GME) with more than 5,000 residents and fellows enrolled in 325 Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited programs at 79 HCA Healthcare teaching hospitals across 16 states.

Increasing access to affordable care
At HCA Healthcare, we work to help ensure the healthcare billing process is clear and supportive for our patients. In partnership with Parallon, HCA Healthcare’s full-service revenue cycle management provider, we have developed several programs and resources designed to provide support, including pricing information, financial counseling, patient-friendly billing practices and generous financial assistance programs.
In 2024, HCA Healthcare provided an estimated cost of approximately $4.4 billion for the delivery of charity care, uninsured discounts and other uncompensated care.
Innovations for care and research
Clinical research and partnerships are fundamental to how we address our communities’ most pressing healthcare needs. As a learning health system, we use our data from more than 43 million annual patient encounters to conduct research and create innovative tools that help improve patient outcomes.
Founded in 2009, the HCA Healthcare Research Institute is the multispecialty clinical research arm of HCA Healthcare. In 2024, the Research Institute expanded support to 43 sites throughout our network and participated in more than 416 industry-sponsored trials.
Political participation and related activities
Consistent with U.S. federal and state laws, we participate in the political giving process through contributions from the HCA Healthcare Good Government Fund and HCA Healthcare state PACs. HCA Healthcare will publish and archive semi-annual reports on our website of political contributions and related activities.
