Quality at HCA Healthcare
A proactive approach
Our Continual Survey Readiness Evaluation Team takes a proactive approach to evaluate and support clinical safety, care delivery and regulatory performance at our hospitals.
HCA Healthcare’s Patient Safety Organization (PSO) partners with HCA Healthcare facilities to build systems, refine processes and foster a culture of safety. Intentionally focusing on protecting conversations around patient safety and quality improvement, the PSO holds an annual, enterprise-wide “Safe Table” campaign to encourage all colleagues to share concerns and ideas related to the delivery of safe, quality care.
We prioritize feedback received from our patients and care teams to help address any potential safety concerns and develop action plans that improve care delivery, patient safety and ultimately the outcomes our patients achieve at all facilities.
Using our expansive networks of care, we empower our care teams to be involved in developing and implementing innovative AI technologies and data-driven solutions. HCA Healthcare’s Digital Transformation and Innovation (DT&I) department supports this by building on our growing technology platform solutions that drive new levels of excellence in care delivery and safety while also seeking to improve the experience of our patients and care team members.
Delivering safe, personalized patient care
Patient safety is our priority. Dedicated patient safety teams are responsible for overseeing event reporting, serious event analyses, safe tables and improvement initiatives. In addition to our safety initiatives, we also engage in an annual Culture of Safety survey, which is designed to help not only drive safety agendas but also ensure the voices of colleagues are valued and leveraged to continuously improve the delivery of safe and effective care.
Across HCA Healthcare’s facilities, we provide patient-focused solutions and resources in an effort to enhance access to care. One such solution is providing interpretation services, and in 2024, HCA Healthcare patients accessed interpretation services in over 237 languages and dialects.
Our spiritual care council and standardized guidance provides a strong foundation for our chaplains and spiritual care teams. Interactive training is also offered to colleagues who desire additional training to improve their awareness and care for the communities we serve.
Strategic collaborations
At HCA Healthcare, we analyze data from our more than 9 million emergency room patient encounters every year to help develop best practices to improve care delivery across our enterprise and the larger healthcare community we serve.
For example, many patients experiencing stroke symptoms come to our emergency rooms first. To help better identify at risk individuals, provide timely treatment and reduce the likelihood of long term clinical impacts of strokes, we are proud of our collaboration with the American Heart Association, in conjunction with the HCA Healthcare Foundation, to support the Getting to the Heart of Stroke initiative. As a part of our Getting to the Heart of Stroke campaign, 10 hospitals improved the ability to identify patients at risk of stroke at the time of discharge by 20%.
Our strategic partnerships with community organizations are designed to address key healthcare issues, such as improving access to care in the communities we serve and providing those who seek that care with the highest-quality services.
