Why choose us

When you decide to work at HCA Healthcare, you choose to be a part of a learning health system that uses its approximately 44 million annual patient encounters to advance science, improve patient care and save lives. We are proud to be a leader in both the delivery of patient-centered care and workforce development. Some of our most impactful benefits include:

Comprehensive medical coverage

We offer comprehensive medical plans, inclusive of prescription drug and behavioral health, that cover many common services at no cost or for a low copay, as well as added dental, vision and AirMed medical transportation benefits.

Financial benefits

One of the most generous plans offered by any healthcare company, our 401(k) program includes a 100% match on up to 9% of pay (based on years of service). Additionally, the Employee Stock Purchase Program allows employees to purchase shares of HCA Healthcare stock at a discount.

Education assistance

Our education assistance programs include tuition reimbursement, student loan assistance, clinical certification support and The Patricia Frist Memorial Scholarship awards for eligible dependents.

Mental and emotional health

We recognize mental and emotional health is just as important as physical health. Through our counseling and family support benefits, such as our partnership with Optum Wellbeing that includes eight free counseling sessions per topic each year, we help ensure our colleagues and their families are healthy in every way.

Nurse care

We offer additional well-being programs specifically for nurses, such as our free 24/7 Nurse Care line that connects nurses to a master's level professional specifically trained in the unique needs of caregivers.

Time away from work

Even when you love your job, you need time off to recharge and recover. HCA Healthcare offers paid time off, paid family leave, maternity leave and long- and short-term disability benefits disability coverage for leaves of absence.

Support during hardship

In times of disaster, our HCA Healthcare family comes to the aid of our colleagues in need with relief workers, food, water, shelter and a shoulder to lean on. Colleagues seeking financial support have access to the HCA Healthcare Hope Fund, a colleague-run 501(c)(3) that helps colleagues impacted by natural disasters, illness, injury, domestic violence, death of a loved one or any number of hardships.

Wellbeing support

Partners like Progyny and Optum WorkLife help us support our colleagues in balancing work and life and everything in between. We provide family planning assistance, adoption assistance, consumer discounts, referral services for household and personal services, access to care programs for family members, financial coaching and more.

Continued education and professional development

Whether earning a certification or a new degree, we offer opportunities for colleagues to continue their education and further their careers. Tuition assistance and clinical certification assistance, as well as partnerships with educational institutions like Galen College of Nursing, unlock possibilities for our colleagues.

Work with purpose

Earn while you learn

In many states, HCA Healthcare partners with academic institutions, community organizations and governmental agencies to offer individuals interested in healthcare the opportunity to learn a skill, complete a certification and begin a fulfilling career caring for others.

This is in addition to all of the ways that we support our colleagues as they grow their careers. For example:

  • In 2020, HCA Healthcare expanded our commitment to education by becoming the majority owner of Galen College of Nursing. Our partnership with Galen has helped increase access to education and provided nursing career development opportunities that we believe will positively impact patient care. Galen College of Nursing’s online RN-to-BSN program allows nurses to learn on their schedule through streamlined, thorough and flexible coursework aligned with HCA Healthcare’s quality measures. Even more valuable is the HCA Healthcare-Galen College of Nursing Grant that allows direct billing between our two organizations. This means zero out-of-pocket tuition costs for colleagues pursuing an online RN to BSN degree.
  • We offer programs such as the FastTrack Pathway to Clinical Care, which helps colleagues complete an associate’s degree for a career in nursing (RN or LPN), respiratory therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, surgical technology or medical laboratory technology.
  • HCA Healthcare’s award-winning Leadership Institute is designed to build leaders who embrace our culture, grow the business and lead the industry. Since its inception in 2014, the Leadership Institute has graduated more than 27,000 colleagues.

HCA Healthcare is one of the nation’s leading providers of healthcare services with 190 hospitals and approximately 2,400 ambulatory sites of care, including surgery centers, freestanding emergency rooms, urgent care clinics, home health and hospice agencies and physician practices, located in 20 states and the United Kingdom.

HCA Healthcare Hope Fund

In 2004, destructive Florida hurricanes impacted hundreds of HCA Healthcare colleagues. Immediately, colleagues across the country asked how they could help and began sending in contributions for those affected.

One year later, the HCA Healthcare Hope Fund was officially formalized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit run by colleagues, for colleagues. Those who give to the Hope Fund are supporting their fellow colleagues who face financial hardship due to natural disaster, illness or injury, domestic violence, death of a loved one or other unexpected situations. Since its inception, the Hope Fund has distributed over $115 million in grants to help more than 56,000 HCA Healthcare families.
